You can use this page to join or renew your membership of London Civil Service Squash Club for the 2024/25 season.
We are a group of around 40 enthusiastic squash players of varying abilities. We are based at the Southbank Squash Club in Vauxhall - London's largest squash and fitness club, home to seven courts plus a gym and bar area.
As a member of Civil Service Squash Club, you can use the Southbank squash courts during off-peak times (daytimes and weekends) at a much discounted rate, take part in Southbank-run ‘club sessions’ on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons (as well as a beginners’ session on Saturday mornings), plus access subsidised coaching. We also organise leagues, tournaments, friendly matches, and other events exclusively for Civil Service Squash Club members.
Full-year membership of Civil Service Squash Club is £80, with the season running from 1 July until 30 June. This is a significant discount on the cost of full membership at Southbank, currently £400/year.
Those joining after 1 January are eligible for a 50% discount on the full-year price, meaning the fee is reduced to £40.
Those joining after 1 April can have membership for the following season at no extra cost, i.e. 15 months for the price of 12 (£80).
Please note that membership of CSSC (Civil Service Sports Club) is a prerequisite for joining Civil Service Squash Club.
Southbank club sessions
As a Civil Service member you are welcome to participate in the Southbank social club sessions on Friday night (5.40pm – 8.40pm) and Saturday afternoon (1-5pm). At these sessions you can meet fellow players and will be matched up with a range of opponents for short, 20 minute games. Tell the staff on reception if you are a beginner and they will make sure to match you with other beginners!

New to squash? Come along to one of the group coaching sessions run by Southbank Club on Saturday mornings 10:00am – 12:00pm.

Civil Service Leagues
We organise box leagues for Civil Service members which are open to all levels. You should be sent an email with further information upon signing up to the leagues. We very much hope that after you join you will show an interest in these. The leagues follow a round-robin format with 4-6 players in a league. Players need to organise their own matches to play each other, and record the scores on the sheets on the CSSC noticeboard at the Southbank Club. At the end of the league cycle, the top player in each league goes up and the bottom player goes down. League cycles typically run for two months.
Team matches
Civil Service Squash Club fields a 5-person team for regular fixtures played against other London squash clubs, usually on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, with subsidised drinks and food after the match. All players of intermediate and advanced standard are encouraged to sign up for team matches.
Tournaments
The London Civil Service Club Championships take place annually over the duration of spring, with Finals night usually coinciding with the club AGM in May. Subject to demand, the Championships will include an Open tournament, Plate (for those knocked out in the first round of the Open), Handicap (where stronger players are given a point penalty), Veterans, and Ladies. Members are also eligible to enter the CSSC National Squash Championships, which usually take place in Nottingham in November. This tournament offers the opportunity to compete against civil service squash players from all over the country.
Individual court bookings
Membership of Civil Service Squash Club entitles you to book squash courts at the Southbank Club at 'off-peak' times only. This means:
Weekdays before 18.30 (latest available booking is at 17.30)
Weekends at any time (apart from during the Southbank social session 1-5pm Saturday afternoon)
You will need to pay a court booking fee to Southbank for every booking as follows:
60 minute booking - £8
30 minute booking - £6
You may invite non-members to join you on court (up to three at any one time) although they will need to pay a guest fee of £7 at Southbank reception.
Subsidised coaching offer
As a Civil Service Squash Club member you are eligible for a 50% discount for up to 3 lessons with any coach based at the Southbank Club. The offer is open to all civil service squash members, new and existing, regardless of ability. All you need to do is send proof of payment for the lessons and your bank details to cssquashtreasurer@gmail.com and we will reimburse you for 50% of the total.

We only have a limited budget for this and so the offer is first come first served. We will send an update if and when the budget limit is reached.
The subsidy applies to coaching fees only, not the Southbank court fee which is usually payable in addition.
The offer can be used for group lessons as follows, if you would like to join forces with other civil service members. This would mean two members can have 50% off 6 lessons, three members can have 50% off 9 lessons etc. Proof of group lessons will need to be seen before the subsidy is paid.

We are affiliated with Civil Service Sports Club (CSSC) and membership of CSSC is a prerequisite in order to join us.
Public sector employees are automatically eligible to join the CSSC.
