More about the walk

The walk will explore how the sports ground and the nearby boathouse played an important role in the growth of CS sport. As well as its essential role during WWII. Hedley will share his unique insight, in his inimitable style, together with stories gathered from decades of expansion and growth of both the grounds and CS sport.

Stand in the echoes of Kings, Queens, and Duchesses, as the walk follows in the footsteps of our Royal Patrons through the ages. Uncover many years of CS sporting heritage including royal support, the history of CS rowing and the ground’s link to Wimbledon tennis.

The walk concludes with a hot or cold drink and cake in the Pavilion, where you will have a chance to view bold items from CSSC’s history, including the key used by King George V to open the ground in 1926 and a CS football trophy described ‘as the largest football trophy in the land if not in the world’.
