Offshore Sailing Taster Day (Hamble)- 2 October 2024

An Introductory offshore sailing taster day on the sheltered wasters of the Solent onboard our Dufour 390 Yacht “Sea Essay”. A great fun day out!

Try your hand at sailing with a CSSA approved Skipper and an experienced Mate!

What to bring with you

You are requested to bring a packed lunch to eat on board.

Please bring your own wet weather gear, plenty of warm layers and soft soled deck shoes or similar should be worn or wellies when cold. Please ensure they have good grip. Hard soled trainers are not suitable.

Safety on board

The yacht is fully equipped to the highest standards and currently exceeds the statutory requirements laid down by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for charter yachts. 

There are sufficient life jackets, harnesses and other safety equipment for a full crew.

Sailing can be dangerous but every precaution is taken to avoid risks, but it is everyone’s duty to ensure their own safety and to avoid putting others at risk at all times. 

All cruises start with a safety briefing.

Please complete all the details for each person you are booking for. A copy of the crew list will be left with a responsible person ashore prior to sailing.

Children attending

Children are welcome to attend however there are no child life jackets on board. The minimum age that will fit the life jackets is approx. 12 depending on size of child. If the child is younger or small for their age then you will need to provide your own life jacket.

We ask that there are 2 adults per child under 12.

Participation

You need to be in good health both for your own safety, the enjoyment of others, and to satisfy our insurers.

We ask you to sign the health declaration upon arrival.

Cancellation: The Club does not offer refunds if you decide to cancel your booking.

You are recommended to use travel insurance for insurable risks as the club does not carry personal cancellation insurance on your behalf.

If the club cancels the day sail then every attempt will made to offer an alternative date and only exceptionally will make a refund of your berth fee.

Getting there:  The yacht is moored at Mercury Yacht Harbour, Post Code SO31 4HQ on the River Hamble berth C25.From M27 JUNCTION 8 follow the signs to HAMBLE.  After about 2 miles down Hamble Lane, turn left onto Satchell Lane (The Marina is sign-posted).  The Marina is on the left after ½ mile.  There is ample parking, and toilets. Enquire in the marina office for the gate access code to the berth and toilets.

Civil Service Sailing Association

The boat is partly funded by the Civil Service Sports Council and is run by the Channel Sailing Division of the Civil Service Sailing Association.  Any member of the CSSC are eligible to join CSSA at no additional subscription.
